About AncestryScan
What is AncestryScan?↓
AncestryScan is an AI-powered iOS app that creates an ancestry-style visual report from a face photo. It is designed for curiosity and entertainment; it does not analyze DNA or determine ethnicity, nationality, or identity.
What is ancestry AI?↓
Ancestry AI is a broad label for systems that create ancestry-style estimates from non-genetic inputs such as a photograph. AncestryScan compares visible photo patterns with AI reference patterns and returns an illustrative report. It is not genetic evidence.
How does AncestryScan work?↓
The app checks that a clear face is visible, securely sends the selected image for AI analysis, and turns the response into a visual report with regional-style context. Processing time varies with the image, network, and service availability.
How accurate is AncestryScan compared to DNA tests?↓
AncestryScan is not comparable to a DNA test for scientific evidence. It creates an AI visual estimate from appearance, while DNA services analyze genetic material. Treat the app result as entertainment and a conversation starter, not proof of ancestry.
Is AncestryScan a DNA test?↓
No. AncestryScan is not a DNA test. It analyzes facial features using computer vision and AI to estimate ancestry — no biological sample is required. For a definitive genetic ancestry report, consider pairing AncestryScan with a DNA testing service.
What facial features does AncestryScan analyze?↓
The model considers visible patterns and proportions in the submitted photo. Lighting, angle, expression, filters, camera quality, and model limitations can all change the result, so no individual trait should be treated as evidence of ancestry.
Privacy & Security
Is my photo stored after analysis?↓
AncestryScan does not intentionally save uploaded photos in its own database. The selected photo is sent securely to a third-party AI provider to generate the report, and that provider's API data controls apply. See the Privacy Policy for current details.
What data does AncestryScan collect?↓
Depending on how you sign in, AncestryScan processes an account identifier and may receive an email or display name. It also processes purchase records, diagnostic information, and product analytics. A selected photo is processed only when you request a report. See the Privacy Policy for the complete list.
How does AncestryScan approach privacy rights?↓
The Privacy Policy explains the data used to operate the app, relevant service providers, and ways to request access or deletion. Privacy requirements vary by location, so contact hi@xyklabs.com with a specific request or question.
Pricing
How much does AncestryScan cost?↓
AncestryScan is free to download and includes a sample report you can inspect before purchasing. Personal scans require credits: $2.99 for a single scan, $9.99 for 5 scans, or $14.99 for 10 scans. Credits never expire.
Is there a subscription?↓
No. AncestryScan uses a simple pay-per-scan credit model with no recurring subscription. You buy credits when you need them and they never expire. There are no hidden fees or automatic renewals.
Is there a free DNA test online?↓
AncestryScan is not a DNA test. A purchased scan creates an AI visual report from a photo without collecting a biological sample, and the app includes a sample report you can review first. Use a reputable DNA service or professional genealogist when genetic evidence matters.
Pet Breed Identification
Can AncestryScan identify dog breeds?↓
Yes. AncestryScan can analyze a photo of your dog and identify the likely breed or breed mix. The AI examines physical characteristics including coat texture, body proportions, ear shape, snout length, and facial structure to match against a comprehensive breed database.
Can AncestryScan identify cat breeds?↓
Yes. AncestryScan supports cat breed identification in addition to dogs. Take a clear photo of your cat and the AI will analyze its features to identify the probable breed or breed combination.
How accurate is the pet breed identification?↓
Pet breed identification works best with clear, well-lit photos where the animal's face and body are fully visible. Accuracy is highest for purebred animals and common mixed breeds. Results are estimates based on visual traits and are provided for fun and informational purposes — they are not a substitute for official breed certification or veterinary evaluation.
Technical
What devices does AncestryScan support?↓
AncestryScan is available for iPhone and iPad running iOS. Download it for free on the App Store. An Android version is not currently available.
Is there an Android version?↓
Not yet. AncestryScan is currently available exclusively on iOS for iPhone and iPad. We are focused on delivering the best possible experience on iOS for now. Stay tuned for future platform announcements.
Do I need an internet connection to use AncestryScan?↓
Yes. The selected photo is transmitted over an encrypted connection for cloud AI processing. AncestryScan does not intentionally save it in its own database; third-party provider data controls still apply.
